Paige's first afternoon tea took us to Carberry Tower in East Lothian, along with granny and some great friends. It was a miserable December afternoon with the rain lashing down as we pulled up outside the castle. A warm welcome awaited us and we were shown to our table in front of the log fire. A good start!
A friendly waitress took our order of teas and coffees and shortly after we were presented with two of these huge platters - a feast! The waitress informed us they were trying out a new style of presenting the afternoon teas, rather than a traditional tiered cake stand and that they welcomed our feedback. Nice to be asked we thought and our feedback was that all the food was delicious but we felt a more traditional style was in keeping with the venue.
So we tucked in and what a treat! Delicious open sandwiches with smoked salmon to name a few, followed by tartlets, scones and cakes. The real wow factor was the cute little milkshake bottles which we hadn't seen before. My favourite was the decadent chocolate brownie which was fudgy and yummy!
A beautiful venue for afternoon tea on a cold winters day and a real treat. I think Paige enjoyed it - she certainly enjoyed all the cuddles and attention!
Melville Castle in Midlothian is our next stop! Blog to follow.
